We are delighted to congratulate Daniel Johansson, who has been awarded the 2026 Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize for his portrayal of Calaf in Puccini’s Turandot at the Royal Swedish Opera!
Established in 1977, the Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize has a long tradition of recognising outstanding artistic achievements in opera and dance. Daniel now joins a distinguished list of previous recipients from the Swedish opera world.
The award was presented at the Royal Swedish Opera following tonight’s performance of Tosca, in which Daniel sang Mario Cavaradossi.
The jury’s citation reads:
“The 2026 Svenska Dagbladet Opera Prize is awarded to opera singer Daniel Johansson for his portrayal of Calaf in Turandot at the Royal Swedish Opera. He rises to the challenges of the role with a supple and powerful voice that glows with love for the princess. A mature interpretation that brings out the essential humanity of the role – a world-class performance.”
