The young German-Polish mezzo-soprano Barbara Skora has this season made her debut at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin as Flora in Verdi’s La Traviata and she has sung Prinz Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus with project Oper auf dem Lande. Barbara will this spring sing the role of Zulma in Rossini’s L’Italiana in Algeri with Fondazione I Teatri di Reggio Emilia.
Barbara was last season a guest at the Staatstheater Hannover singing Dritte adelige Waise in Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier and she portrayed Sister Mathilde in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites at Staatstheater Braunschweig.
She has sung Hexe in Königskinder by Humperdinck, the Forester’s Wife/Terynka in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen and Orfeo in the baroque production “L’inferno dentro me” with the HMTM in Hannover. With Oper auf dem Lande, she has previously portrayed Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Bradamante in Händel’s Alcina.
Barbara Skora began her studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw under the guidance of Dr. Magdalena Idzik, followed by studies at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover, HMTM with Professor Marek Rzepka, from where she received her Bachelor’s degree, and her Master’s degree in 2025 and currently is enrolled as a Soloklasse student.
Barbara has won prizes at several international competitions in the Czech Republic, Poland and Italy. She was the winner of the joint Prize from the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, and Staatsoper Berlin at the Bundeswettbewerb Gesang Berlin. She also received Special prizes in both the international competition 78th Concorso de Genève, and the Debut Lied Wettbewerb. As a scholarship recipient of the Mozart Labor, she made her debut at the Mozart Festival in Würzburg.
Barbara Skora has continuously refined her vocal skills at numerous masterclasses, including those with Brigitte Fassbaender, Clarry Bartha, Dorothea Röschmann, and Claudia Visca.
