Praised for the warmth and richness of her voice, the young Norwegian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Lund Tomter is gaining growing attention on the operatic stage. Her 2025/26 season featured her debut at the Norwegian National Opera as Dritte Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. Further engagements during the season included her debut as Emilia in Verdi’s Otello at Helsingør Chamber Opera, and a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Opera Nordfjord, conducted by Michael Pavelic.
In 2026/27 Cecilia will perform Magdalone in Maskarade by Carl Nielsen at the Danish National Opera, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro at the Royal Danish Opera, and Mercedes in Carmen at Opera Nordfjord as well as Zita i Gianni Schicchi på Helsingør Chamber Opera.
Cecilia’s artistic foundation was built across Norway, Austria, and Denmark. Following her initial studies at the Norwegian Academy of Music and exchange studies at the MDW in Vienna, she completed her master's degree at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. She then pursued further advanced training at the prestigious Opera Academy in Copenhagen, subsequently completing her soloist diploma.
Cecilia made her operatic debut in 2022 as Gerhilde in John Fulljames’ highly acclaimed and award-winning production of Die Walküre at the Royal Danish Theatre, while still finishing her studies at the Opera Academy. As a member of the Young Artist Program at the Royal Danish Theatre from 2023 to 2025, Cecilia appeared in several main-stage productions. Most recently, she appeared as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro to great critical acclaim. Her other notable roles at the house include Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, La Suora Zelatrice in Suor Angelica, and Dritte Dame in Barrie Kosky’s iconic production of Die Zauberflöte.
The summer of 2024 Cecilia continued her path with Wagner and made her debut as Fricka in Das Rheingold in Bergen National Opera‘s Opera by the Fjord. For her performance she was awarded the Rieber talent prize for young singers. Later the same summer Cecilia was one of only four chosen participants at the Bayreuth Festspiele Masterclass, lead by the legendary Waltraud Meier, where she performed excerpts of the roles Brangäne and Fricka at Wagners house Villa Wahnfried.
Cecilia has also enjoyed success in competitions and in 2026 she was awarded the first prize in the Hjördis Schymberg Award and she is selected to compete in the prestigious Wagner Stimmen competition in Bayreuth taking place in August 2026. In 2025, she reached the final out of 800 applicants in the Belvedere Competition and received 3rd Prize in the Elizabeth Connell competition for young female dramatic voices in London.
