Pianist Magnus Svensson is widely regarded as one of Scandinavia’s leading accompanists, admired for his stylistic versatility and exceptional command of the vocal and piano repertoire. In recent seasons, he has collaborated with many of the world’s foremost singers, including Nina Stemme, Christina Nilsson, Malin Byström, Bryn Terfel, Pretty Yende, Ian Bostridge, Christoph Prégardien, Dorothea Röschmann, Louise Alder, Mark Padmore, Sarah Connolly, Günther Groissböck, Benjamin Appl, Ann Hallenberg, Irène Theorin, Elin Rombo, Miah Persson, Johanna Wallroth, Rebecka Wallroth, Karl-Magnus Fredriksson, Sofie Asplund, Camilla Tilling and many more.
He appears regularly as a recitalist, chamber musician and accompanist at major concert halls and festivals throughout Scandinavia, Europe and the United States. Since 2015, his artistic home has been the Lied series at Konserthuset Stockholm, where he is also active as a highly regarded curator. Under his direction, the series has developed into one of the Nordic region’s most prominent platforms for art song. The 2026/27 season includes Asmik Grigorian, Samuel Hasselhorn, Ian Bostridge and Christina Nilsson. Earlier in his career, Svensson was also one of the initiators of the acclaimed song series Svenska Sopranos (2007–2011) at the Swedish History Museum.
Svensson initially pursued extensive studies in both cello and organ before dedicating himself to the piano, whose vast repertoire remains central to his artistic identity. Alongside his performing career, he has served since 2012 as Musical Editor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, where he has been responsible for the publication of more than 750 editions of Swedish music. He was for many years also involved in the large-scale musical programming associated with the Royal Palace, Stockholm.
A dedicated pedagogue, Svensson teaches at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. His artistic profile is further reflected in a broad discography of around twenty recordings on several labels, encompassing solo repertoire, chamber music and collaborations with singers. His solo recordings include works by Mozart, Schumann and Bach. In addition to his work as a pianist, he is also active as a sound engineer and producer.
