Markus Bjørlykke

The Norwegian tenor Markus Bjørlykke has rapidly emerged as one of the most promising young operatic talents in Scandinavia. In the summer of 2026, he will make his Swedish debut as Florestan in Fidelio at Läckö Castle, followed by a return to the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet as Pluton in Offenbach’s Orphée aux enfers. His upcoming concert engagements include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Kilden Performing Arts Centre, a performance at the Elverum Music Festival with the Norwegian National Youth Orchestra, and an appearance at the Fjord Cadenza Festival with their festival orchestra.

For the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, Markus has been a member of the Wilhelmsen Opera Studio for Young Singers (WOYS) at The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. During his tenure with the company, he has appeared in an impressive range of roles, including the Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia, Ferrando in Così fan tutte, Spoletta in Tosca, Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte, and Gastone in La traviata. In 2025 he performed Lensky at the The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet as a guest soloist for the Oslo National Academy’s Master student’s full production of Eugen Onegin.

On the international stage, he has previously performed the role of Caino in Caino e Abele at Festival Retz in Austria, a production that subsequently received a nomination for Der Österreichische Musiktheaterpreis. In 2023, Markus continued to expand his repertoire in Norway, performing the role of Geir Ove in Krenket - Vern barnet (T. Brøske) with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, as well as portraying Goro in Madama Butterfly with Opera Trøndelag. Markus has also appeared as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi at Opera by the Fjord, where he had the honor of becoming the inaugural recipient of the GC Rieber Scholarship.

Markus Bjørlykke received his Masters degree from the Academy of Opera at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2022.
