Swedish soprano Jessica Elevant appears this season as Angelica in Elena Langer’s Figaro Gets a Divorce at the Royal Opera, where she also returns to the role of Gun in Daniel Nelson’s Sova Vaken. She opened the season with her role debut as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni at the Confidencen Opera & Music Festival.
In the 2024/25 season, Jessica made her house debut at SemperOper Dresden in Saariaho’s Innocence in the role of Lilly. She also sang Morgana in Handel’s Alcina at the Confidencen Opera & Music Festival to critical acclaim. That season she debuted with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder at Stockholm Concert Hall, and appeared as soloist in the Royal Opera’s concert production Hjärtats Speldosa.
During the 2023/24 season, Jessica sang the role of Lizzy in Daniel Nelson’s opera Pride and Prejudice at Norrlandsoperan. She also participated in two productions for the Royal Opera’s Young Artists program: the role of Gun in the contemporary opera Sova Vaken by Daniel Nelson, and the concert production Hjärtats Speldosa, both of which she premiered the previous season. In 2022/23, her engagements included the role of the Mother in the children’s opera Var är smörgåsen? by Niklas Brommare. She also served as cover for the role of Justine for the premiere of Mikael Karlsson’s opera Melancholia, both at the Royal Opera.
Jessica Elevant graduated from the Opera Programme at Stockholm University of the Arts in 2021. She made her Royal Opera debut in the 2021/22 season as the Princess in Benjamin Stern’s opera The Snow Queen, while also covering the role of Ava for the premiere of Mats Larsson Gothe’s Löftet. That same year, she appeared as Musetta in La Bohème at the Dala-Floda Opera Festival.
Jessica has performed in a wide range of concerts, including Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Stradella’s La forza delle stelle, and Verdi’s Requiem at major venues across Sweden. She performed Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder at the opening concert of the International Wagner Congress 2019 in Venice and again with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2024. She has also appeared with the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne in Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms under the baton of Nader Abbassi.
In 2019, Jessica was invited to the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme masterclass Opera Arias with Antonio Pappano, where she had the privilege to work with Sir Antonio Pappano, Pamela Bullock, and Julia Faulkner.
In 2018, Jessica participated in the international singing competition WagnerStimmen in Karlsruhe, where she won both the First Prize from the jury and the Audience Prize. She was awarded the Swedish Wagner Society’s Young Singer Scholarship in 2018 and, in 2019, received a scholarship from the Marianne and Sigvard Bernadotte Foundation for the Arts.
