Anton Ljungqvist

The Swedish baritone Anton Ljungqvist has begun this season with the role of Tonio in Pagliacci and Betto di Signa in Gianni Schicchi both at the Wermland Opera. This spring includes the role of Fadern in the world premiere of the contemporary opera På andra sidan havet by Catharina Backman at the Malmö Opera.
Anton Ljungqvist was last season a guest at the Göteborg Opera where he sung Shaunard in a concert version of La Bohème. The season before Anton appeared in the same role in the original staged production in Gothenburg. The spring of 2021 included the role of Lax M, the old poet in the world premiere of Philip Glass’ opera Circus Days and Nights in the co-production of Malmö Opera and Cirkus Cirkör.
Anton Ljungqvist has previously appeared as Doktor Grenvil in La Traviata and in the roles of Horatius and First Gravedigger in Thomas’ Hamlet at the Göteborg Opera. At the Wermland Opera, Anton participated in their Trilogi production with three roles; Figaro in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Sevilia, Figaro in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro and Don Fernando in Beethoven’s Fidelio. He has also sung Mr Gedge in Britten’s Albert Herring and Eisenstein in Die Fledermaus on the same stage.
On the concert platform Anton Ljungqvist has sung Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem, Bach’s St John Passion, Mozart’s Requiem and Coronation mass, Fauré Requiem, Duruflé Requiem and Fredrik Sixten Requiem among others. In 2017 Anton Ljungqvist was a guest soloist in the concert hall Berwaldhallen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s traditional Epiphany Concerts, recorded for the Swedish Television, SVT. Anton has sung Mitjuka in Boris Godunov together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra led by Kent Nagano, with concerts in the Gothenburg and Stockholm concert halls. Anton has also been on several concert torus with the Wermland opera.
Anton Ljungqvist graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm in 2011 and has been awarded several scholarships such as the Stockholm Royal Academy of Music scholarship, the Vadstena Academy and the Joel Berglund scholarships.
Anton Ljungqvist has participated in the recording of Jacopo Foronis Cristina, regina di Svezia, where he sings the role of Arnold Messenius.
