David Roy

The young Polish baritone David Roy has from the season of 2025/26 joined the Junges Ensemble at the Semper Oper in Dresden where he performes Marullo in Rigoletto, Erster Priester in Die Zauberflöte, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly and Mr. Martin in Luciano Chailly’s The Bald Soprano. David has also made his debut at Oper Wuppertal singing Landgraf Rudolf in Ethel Smyth’s Der Wald. The season also included his debut with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in Carmina Burana. David will the summer of 2026 sing Germont in La traviata with the Academy Atelier Lyrique at the Verbier Festival led by James Gaffigan.

In the season of 2024/25 David made his house debut at the Royal Swedish Opera singing Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia. David performed Marco in Gianni Schicchi with Fondazione Haydn di Bolzano e Trento at Teatro Comunale Bolzano and as Germont in La traviata at the Opera Nova in Bydgoszczy.

The season of 2023/24 included Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Polish Royal Opera / Polska Opera Królewska. David also made his debut in Carmina Burana with the Kalisz Philharmonic.

David Roy studied for Prof. Dr. Marek Rzepka in the Solo Class at the Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media. David graduated from The Feliks Nowowiejski Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz under the guidance of Prof. Adam Zdunikowski.

David Roy took his first steps onto the stage at Opera Nova in Bydgoszcz as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and in the following years he performed there as Belcore in Donizetti’s L'elisir d'amore, Conte Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro and Swordbearer in The Haunted Manor by Stanisław Moniuszko.

Since 2022 he has been cooperating with Polish Royal Opera in Warsaw performing as Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Taddeo in L'Italiana in Algeri. In 2022 he took part in Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and performed as Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims. In the following year he performed at Savannah VOICE Festival as Masetto in Don Giovanni by W. A. Mozart. In 2023 David sang his first Amonasro in Aida at the Karkonosze Opera Festival in Zgorzelec.

David Roy has several successes in international and nationwide vocal competitions, including 1st Prize in 2nd Bogdan Paprocki’s Polish National Vocal Competition, 2nd Prize in 19th The Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition (1nd Prize was not awarded), 1st prize at 21th Imrich Godin International Vocal Competition IUVENTUS CANTI 2019, 2nd prize at 3rd International Vocal Competition of Sacred Music Ars et Gloria and 1st prize and Grand Prix at 2nd International Talsi Children and Youth Academic Singing and Vocal Ensemble Competition.

David has been developing his skills in many masterclasses with great artists, such as Sherill Milnes, Mariusz Kwiecień, Andrzej Dobber, Marek Rzepka, Clarry Bartha and Claudia Visca.
