The Swedish tenor Wiktor Sundqvist will this season sing the role of Asle in the world premiere of Asle and Alida – a new opera by Bent Sørensen and Nobel Prize winner of Literature, Jon Fosse. The production is a collaboration between the Bergen National Opera, where the world premiere takes place, and the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen, where the opera will be played in May/June 2025.
The season of 2023/24 Wiktor Sundqvist sung Thespis/Merkurius in Rameau’s Platée at the Göteborg Opera and Courtier in La Cenerentola at Folkoperan in Stockholm. The season before commenced at the Confidencen Opera & Music festival where Wiktor sang Atis in Joseph Kraus’ opera Proserpin. Wiktor appeared in the role of Ferrando in Così fan tutte at Uppsala Stadsteater, a co-production with Folkoperan in Stockholm that premiered in Stockholm 2022 with Wiktor in the same role. Wiktor sang Licinius in Spontini’s La Vestale at Teater Tribunalen and he appeared in the world premiere of Sven-David Sandström’s last opera The Book of Life, as well as the family opera Hion om natten, both with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra.
Wiktor Sundqvist made his debut at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2021/22 as Kaj in the contemporary opera Snödrottningen/The Snow Queen, composed by Benjamin Staern. Wiktor also appeared in the role of The Son in the world premiere of the staged oratorio Ålevangeliet/The Gospel of the Eels at Folkoperan. In the season of 2019/20 Wiktor Sundqvist sang Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at NorrlandsOperan and Orontes in Antonia Walpurgis’ Talestri, regina delle amazon with the independent opera company Kamraterna.
Previous engagements include Kaj in Snödrottningen/The Snow Queen at the world premiere at Malmö Opera, where he also has appeared in the roles of Harlequin and A Soldier in the chamber opera Der Keiser von Atlantis by Viktor Ullman and Ahmed in A Thousand and one nights by David Fjellström. Wiktor Sundqvist sang Janek in Janáček’s Věc Makropulos at the Göteborg Opera and Alfred in Die Fledermaus at the Wermland Opera. He has appeared as Juan in Don Quijote and Pang in Turandot at Folkoperan in Stockholm. He has sung Narciso in Rossini’s Il turco in Italia at the Läckö Castle Opera and he has participated in Piteå Kammaropera's contemporary Stilla min Eld. Wiktor has appeared in Silverskeppet and in the contemporary opera Son of Heaven by Japanese composer Moto Osada, both at the VadstenaAcademy in Sweden and he has sung Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro at NorrlandsOperan.
Wiktor graduated in 2015 from the University College of Opera in Stockholm.
